It all began in Italy…

During a summer in the early ‘90s, as an architecture student, I had the opportunity to study in Vicenza— a northern Italian city in the Venato region.  As I analyzed the proportions, rhythms, and orders of the Renaissance buildings, much of my days were spent training my eyes to see and my hands to record the beauty that was before me.  With a pencil and a travel Winsor & Newton watercolor set in hand, my journey into architectural watercolors began.

Years later as a licensed architect, I continued to use the skill of sketching as part of the design process. A quick, expressive sketch is an invaluable communication tool in an era of computer-drawn images.  Eventually I transitioned to teaching where I enjoyed sharing my passion for architecture and classical design with high school students.

Today I return to the pastime I enjoyed so much: making art about architecture. Through my artwork, I hope to share an appreciation for classical architecture— it’s beauty, form, and deep and inherent meaning.

To art, architecture, and timeless beauty!
